Jee’s 40 Lessons @ 40!
I am turning 40 tomorrow! Can you believe it? I shol’ can’t, so here I am sharing a 40 lessons I have learned over these 40 years.
Let’s get into it…
Believe in yourself and you abilities - I wish this was my mentality in my 20’s so many of my ideas could be full grown had I only believed in my gifts and talents
Take care of your body, mind and soul- I spent a lot of time with negative thinking and negative self- talk. It is such a waste. We only get one life take care of YOU!
Follow your passion, don’t be afraid to pursue it- Life and life’s experiences pointed me in the direction of my passion, then I had to trust where life led me. Living in
Explore new places and cultures- There is more to life than your front porch and the block you grew up on. Try new things your life will be changed!
Don't take life too seriously, learn to laugh and have fun. - For a long time I took life too serious, then I learned life is short. Now I choose to stay calm, laugh and enjoy life!
Take calculated risks and be open to new opportunities. - It’s hard to take a risk with so much uncertainty. With each risk I experienced so many new opportunities. Take the risk girl!
Practice gratitude and appreciate the little things in life. - “Thank You” makes room for so much more. The more isn’t material things its things money can’t buy.
Set goals and work hard to achieve them. - I am a firm believer in writing down your goals. Your brain connects, your heart receives and you become accountable to your words.
Learn from your mistakes and failures, they are opportunities for growth. - Mistakes are tough lessons, nothing beats failure but a try. Turned my L’s into lessons.
Develop good communication skills and learn to listen. - I am STILL learning this one right here. It’s good to be able to talk but can you LISTEN?!
Be kind and compassionate towards others- Everyone you come in contact with has a story, learn to extend grace.
Surround yourself with positive and supportive people. - Who you surround yourself with is who you will become. Negative Nancy’s will suck the life out of you.
Embrace change and be adaptable. - Growth happens when you are open willing to embrace change. It’s difficult yet it creates so much beauty.
Learn to say NO so you can say YES to what you really want. - I used to feel so guilty about about saying NO, until I learned there is peace in a NO. My YES is valuable.
Girl, learn how to save your money. - I wish I had saved more money when I was younger. Delayed gratification is a real thing, it really does serve us well when we use it.
Keep a library in your home - Readers truly are leaders, stay a student! There’s so much to learn in BOOKS!
Keep a healthy relationship with your parents- My love changed for my parents when I realized they are people first. They didn’t get a rule book in raising you! Love your parents you only get one mother and father!
Be true to yourself and your values. - Learn who you are at your core and what you believe. Fall in love with that person, be true to YOU!
Don't compare yourself to others, everyone's journey is different. - Comparison will rob you of your personal joy..don’t do it, it aint worth it.
Let go of people and things that no longer serve you. - I have held on to things and people too long. It will hinder your growth. Let it go.
Don't let people play in your face! - Baby, if I think back I done let folks play in my face! Learn to speak up for you, don’t let anyone disrespect you.
PRAY! - Learn to pray, do it often, do it all the time if you can. Prayer will CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
Take care of your relationships, they are important. - Take care of the relationships of people who are in your life that you value. Don’t burn bridges.
Be present, these are the good days! - Your present days are the good days! One of the things I wish I had done more of was being present to enjoy each moment of my life.
Go to therapy, learn to embrace quiet time - Therapy & journaling can help change your life. Add it to your new things you learn and or your standing routine.
Take responsibility for your actions and decisions. - It’s okay not to be right all the time. Its hard to say, “I was wrong” learn to do hard things.
Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. - There is a strength in raising your hand asking for help. You aren’t weak when you ask.
Get your passport, go travel the world. - Vegas, Miami and Houston are great, I want you to travel internationally! Get your passport & book your flight girl.
Practice self-care and prioritize your well-being.- Learn what self-care and well-being looks like for you. Maybe it’s doing puzzles or just sitting in silence, either way learn it, do it!
Get a relationship with GOD! - Keeping yourself in daily relationship with God will change your life girl!
You can change your mind. - Your first answer doesn’t have to stay your answer. You can always change your mind without an explanation.
Learn to handle criticism in a constructive way. - Criticism isn’t an indictment
Cultivate a positive attitude and mindset. -Honestly I had to learn how to be positive and stop with the negative self talk to me. It’s a struggle but possible
Learn when to HUSH! - People don’t care, they didn’t ask, simply don’t want your advice, so HUSH!
Practice a private life. - Everything about your life isn’t meant to be shared with everyone. Guard your life!
You can’t pay for peace - When I learned this lesson my life changed. I would take peace over being popular.
You grow best in the dark. - You don’t see a plants roots you only see the benefit of the great soil of the plant. Get some deep roots in your growing process!
Embrace diversity and celebrate differences. - Your way of life isn’t the
